What exactly is a freemason (freemasonry)?
Me and a few friends were looking up freemason information yesterday. One of them was saying that they are satanic and that they have sold their soul to the devil to prosper in life. They told me about all the music artists who have secretly committed to freemasonry. I’m not sure what to believe because i’m agnostic and it all sounds a little far fetched to me. Please provide me with some truth. I would really appreciate it.
And by truth, i mean about the freemasons.
It’s a fraternity, whose central preoccupations are charitable work.
The requirements for being a Freemason:
* Be a man who comes of his own free will.
* Believe in a Supreme Being (the form of which is left to open interpretation by the candidate).
* Be at least the minimum age (from 18–25 years old depending on the jurisdiction. In some jurisdictions the son of a Mason, known as a “Lewis”, may join at an earlier age than others).
* Be of good morals, and of good reputation.
* Be of sound mind and body (Lodges had in the past denied membership to a man because of a physical disability; however, now, if a potential candidate says a disability will not cause problems, it will not be held against him).
* Be free-born (or “born free”, i.e., not born a slave or bondsman). As with the previous, this is entirely an historical holdover, and can be interpreted in the same manner as it is in the context of being entitled to write a will. Some jurisdictions have removed this requirement.
* Be capable of furnishing character references, as well as one or two references from current Masons, depending on jurisdiction.

There isn’t a big conspiracy, that’s nonsense. My granddad’s a freemason, all they do is have a meeting every so often. They used to hold family lunches on holidays (Christmas and Mothers’ Day). Masons brought their families, everyone brought some food and something for the raffle.
Freemasonry is not a religion and there is no seperate Masonic deity. It’s not even a ’secret society’ so much as a ‘esoteric’ society in which certain aspects are private. It’s not even ‘invitation only’, in many jurisdictions, the candidate must first be the one to inquire.
